American researchers found that leaves can also be used as batteries

Can leaves also make batteries? Yes, you are not mistaken. Researchers at the University of Maryland in the United States have made environmentally friendly batteries that are easy to use and low in cost, using oak leaves and some sodium. The researchers first baked the oak leaves in a high temperature of 1000 degrees Celsius for one hour to carbonize the leaves and then add sodium. The back of the oak leaf is covered with pores, which were originally used to absorb water. The researchers used these pores to absorb the sodium electrolyte; the front side of the leaf has become a layer of nanostructured carbon that can absorb the sodium carrying the charge; the whole process just happens to form The positive and negative poles of the sodium battery.

In detail, the sodium battery and the current mainstream lithium battery almost come out at the same time, the sodium battery is more efficient, but since it has not been able to find a suitable electrode material, the sodium battery cycle life is far less than the lithium battery. Many scientists are working on solving the material problems of sodium batteries.

The American Daily Science News Network quoted researchers at the University of Maryland as saying that the leaves are everywhere and can be easily seen. They used to make sodium batteries with other natural materials such as wood fiber, but found that the shape and structure of the leaves are more suitable. They plan to use different shapes of leaves to make batteries, hoping to find the best thickness, structure and flexibility of the electrical energy storage.

Researchers are not currently planning to put leaf batteries into commercial production. The findings are published in the latest issue of Applied Materials and Interfaces, published by the American Chemical Society.
